Did you know ‘Spread the Love’ was an established slogan for Peanut Butter and Jelly food drives? I didn’t. Thankfully Lighthouse was able to teach it to me.
The combination of Valentine’s day, Spread the Love, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and non-MLB baseball players made it the perfect charitable fit for the Bloomfield Firebirds. We will be collecting Peanut Butter and Jelly to donate to Lighthouse’s (lighthousemi.org) food pantry. Lighthouse, a local charity in Pontiac, is working to end poverty in our local communities. These spreadable staples are a priority item in the pantry.
The Bloomfield Firebirds are a 501c3 non-profit organization. In addition to creating better baseball players, we hope that we are building better people too. We hope these charitable efforts help to reinforce the value of community service in our players. We had great results working with Lighthouse before and we want to do it again.
Players will hand out fliers in their neighborhood and, hopefully, make an effort to spread the word at their schools too. On Sunday, February 23rd, after baseball practice (around 11am), players will collect Peanut Butter and Jelly from their neighbors. Hopefully, as requested, the items will be ready for pick-up on their porches. Players will be responsible for collection of items at their own school. Finally, coaches and players will deliver the goods to Lighthouse at the end of February on Saturday, February 29th.
If you can’t contribute to the food drive, then please still contribute. You can still Spread the Love (through Amazon) and Lighthouse will directly receive your donation.
